　　每年的12月25日，是基督教徒紀念耶穌誕生的日子，稱為圣誕節。

　　Every year on December 25, the birth of Jesus Christ， is celebrated and called Christmas.

　　從12月24日于翌年1月6日為圣誕節節期。節日期間，各國基督教徒都舉行隆重的紀念儀式。圣誕節本來是基督教徒的節日，由于人們格外重視，它便成為一個全民性的節日，國家一年中最盛大的節日，可以和新年相提并論。

　　From December 24th to January 6th many people celebrate the Christmas feast. During the festival, Christians hold one or more ceremonies. Christmas was originally a Christian festival, but because of many people’s attention, it became a national holiday. In western countries， it is the biggest festival in a year .It is similar in importance to the Spring Festival.

　　西方人以紅、綠、白三色為圣誕色，圣誕節來臨時家家戶戶都要用圣誕色來裝飾。紅色的有圣誕花和圣誕蠟燭。綠色的是圣誕樹。它是圣誕節的主要裝飾品，用砍伐來的杉、柏一類呈塔形的常青樹裝飾而成。上面懸掛著五顏六色的彩燈和禮物。

　　Westerners often dress in red, green and white for Christmas. Many families use these three colors to decorate during Christmas. Red is used in Christmas flowers and Christmas candles. Green is found in the Christmas tree. For the Christmas decorations, people cut many trees, especially evergreen trees to use for decoration. People often hang many lights on the tree along with other colorful decorations and gifts.

　　紅色與白色相映成趣的是圣誕老人，他是圣誕節活動中最受歡迎的人物。西方兒童在圣誕夜臨睡之前，要在壁爐前放上一只襪子，等候圣誕老人在他們入睡后把禮物放在襪子內。在西方，扮演圣誕老人也是一種習俗。

　　The red and white clothes of Santa Claus is a popular custom during Christmas. Many Western children before going to sleep will hang a sock in front of the fireplace. They do this so that Santa Claus will fill it with gifts. In the west, the belief in Santa Claus is a traditional belief held by many children.

　　“圣誕節”這個名稱是“基督彌撒”的縮字。彌撒是教會的一種禮拜儀式。耶誕節是一個宗教節。我們把它當作耶蘇的誕辰來慶祝，因而又名耶誕節。這一天，全世界所有的基督教會都舉行特別的禮拜儀式。但是有很多圣誕節的歡慶活動和宗教并無半點關聯。如交換禮物，寄圣誕卡等。

　　"Christmas" comes from the phrase "Christ Mass". A mass is a form of worship. Christmas is a religious festival. We take it as the birthday of Jesus, and to celebrate Christmas. This day, all over the world in Christian churches many hold special worship services. But there are many Christmas activities that have no religious relevance. For example， the exchanging of gifts and sending Christmas cards.

　　耶穌的出生是有一段故事的，耶穌是因著圣靈成孕，由童女馬利亞所生的。神更派遣使者加伯列在夢中曉諭約瑟，叫他不要因為馬利亞未婚懷孕而不要她，反而要與她成親，把那孩子起名為“耶穌”，意思是要他把百姓從罪惡中救出來。

　　Jesus' birth is a story. In it, He is believed to be born of the holy spirit, born to the virgin Mary. God sent a message to Joseph in a dream that he shouldn't worry because of Mary's unmarried pregnancy because the meaning of boy named "Jesus" was that he would rescue the people from sin.

　　當馬利亞快要臨盆的時候，羅馬政府下了命令，全部人民到伯利恒務必申報戶籍。約瑟和馬利亞只好遵命。

　　When Mary was giving birth, the Roman government gave a command that all the people of Bethlehem must declare the people in their families. Joseph and Mary had to obey.

　　他們到達伯利恒時，天色已昏，無奈兩人未能找到旅館渡宿，只有一個馬棚可以暫住。就在這時，耶穌要出生了！于是馬利亞唯有在馬槽上，生下耶穌。后人為紀念耶穌的誕生，便定十二月二十五為圣誕節，年年望彌撒，紀念耶穌的出世。

　　When they reached Bethlehem, it was already dark and they failed to find any accommodation except for a place where horses and other animals were resting. This was the place where Jesus would be born! Mary gave birth to Jesus in this manger. Later generations commemorate the birth of Jesus, calling it Christmas on December 25 every year, in order to remember the day when Jesus was born.

　　圣誕節便是于十二月二十五日紀念耶穌的誕生，但真實的誕生日就沒有人知道了。十九世紀，圣誕卡的流行、圣誕老人的出現，圣誕節亦開始流行起來。

　　Christmas is commemorated on December 25th as the birth of Jesus, but the real birth date, no one knows. In the nineteenth century, the popular customs of sending Christmas cards, Santa Claus and celebrating Christmas began to appear.
