Working from Home
Certain companies, especially some small-scale businesses, start to encourage their staff to work from home or use home as ￡t working base for at least part of the week nowadays. Some offer some form of remote working support to their work-forces, such as equipping them with laptops and installing broadband, and others pay for the telephone bills for these workers.
This work pattern is popular because its clear that there are a number of benefits for these companies. First, it helps retain employees, especially highly- qualified working parents with childcare responsibilities. Second, it brings higher productivity because the employees have fewer interruptions and less communicating time. Last but not least it offers savings on premises and other facilities.
However, there are some potential drawbacks. For one thing, there is difficulty of managing home workers and monitoring their performance and difficulty of maintaining staff development and upgrading skills. For another, it may create a sense of isolation among home workers and it can be harder to maintain team spirit. Therefore, enterprises should weigh the pros and cons before permitting their employees to work at home.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to our English Corner. This corner was set up a year ago. Every Sunday morning, students from different middle schools gather around here. Thousands of students have been here since it appeared. Many college students and foreign friends often join us, too.
In this corner we practise English with each other. We talk in English about everything we＇re interested in. Also, we learn English songs, play all kinds of English games and so on. We have a good time here.
We feel that we have learned a lot that can＇t be done in English classes. So our English Corner has become necessary and more and more welcomed by middle school students and their parents and teachers.

英語作為國際通用語，其重要地位越來越得到大家的共識。因為，“我們不能忽視一個巨人的存在”（英國某語言專家語）。所以，我們要下定決心，排除萬難，掌握英語。而構建你英語大廈的基礎，就是詞匯。
1．詞匯學習的重要性。英語能力培養程序：詞匯-語法-聽-說-讀-寫。英語高分訓練程序：詞匯-讀-寫。這兩套程序是語言學和認知學研究的成果，次序千萬不能顛倒。詞匯是基礎，是素材，是細胞，不要指望詞匯基本功不扎實的人能夠考出高分；閱讀是中國人學習外語的最佳途徑，也是目前各類外語考試的最主要題型；寫作是掌握外語，檢驗自己水平的最主要方式。有興趣的人可以參考這方面的專著。
2。詞匯的學習最困難。如果有人說不，他保證是“唯心主義”。那既然如此，有無捷徑？這兒就有一條捷徑，穿越時空隧道，到達夢幻之境。詞匯的學習要以變應變，在不同的階段，要有不同的方法。想一想你是如何記住face和pencil的？死記硬背，“無他法，唯手熟爾”（賣油翁）。所以，從原理上來說，詞匯的學習離開死記硬背是不行的，因為，外語的學習要點在于記憶，死記硬背好比打基礎，離開了他，毫無大廈可言。如果你的詞匯量在5000以下，買一本詞匯書，詞匯量在3000（背功不行）5000（背功還行）7500（背功很好）。選擇標準有三：1。有音標；2有詞性；3內容簡單，沒有例句。
你是如何記住facial,surface,deface;acclaim,declaim,proclaim的？因為你知道-face-,-claim-的意義。所以，詞根詞綴法是你學習詞匯第二階段的方法。詞根詞綴法的意義我就不多說了，你是如何記住flagrant和fragrant的？因為你知道-l-(一根大棒),-r-(一朵鮮花)，所以他們的意義就井然分明了。聯想記憶法是你學習詞匯第三階段的方法。唯有聯想，才能強力擴大詞匯范圍。聯想記憶法有時也叫做邪門記憶法，這方面的'書很多。
3.如何運用詞典擴大詞匯量。關于辭典。詞匯的學習離不開詞典，如何選用她至關重要。我做一個Prediction，70%的人用的是牛津和朗文。但是你如果看一下英語專業的考試大綱的話，你會發現，COLLINSCOBUILD和WEBSTER’SCOLLEGEDICTIONARY才是最好的工具書。我用的就是后者。為什么要推薦這倆本呢？1、釋義詳細，簡練；2、提高詞匯在上下文的理解能力；3、后者還提供詞源，方便理解與記憶。
4.詞匯量大對閱讀的幫助。閱讀有三個層次：字面意義，行間意義，言外之意。試題考察的比例一般為2：2：1。字面意義不必多說，對于行間意義和言外之意的理解，需要高超的技巧，一般的閱讀書上都有，在此我提一下篇章結構的作用。篇章結構對于解答行間意義和言外之意的提問特別有效。
