1. make…of (from)… 由……制成……(通常用被動(dòng)式)。
如：The chair is made of wood. 這椅子是用木頭做的。
Some paper is made from wood. 有些紙是用木材做的。
Bread is made from wheat. 面包是由小麥加工做成。
注：用介詞 of 和 from 的區(qū)別是：
用 of 通常指在制成品中看得出原材料，而用 from 通常指在制成品中看不出原材料。
有時(shí)某些制成品是否看得出原材料很難分清，則兩者均可用。
如：Steamed bread is made from [of] flour. 饅頭是用面粉做的。
2. make for
(1) 走向，往……走去。
如：It’s late; we’d better make for home. 時(shí)間不早了，我們最好回家吧。
As the thief opened the door, the dog made for him. 小偷一開(kāi)門(mén)，狗就向他撲去。
(2) 有助于，有益于，促進(jìn)。
如：Early rising makes for good health. 早起有益于健康。
The large print makes for easy reading. 大號(hào)字體便于閱讀。
3. make it
(1) 及時(shí)趕到。
如：You can make it if you hurry. 如果你趕快還可以及時(shí)趕到。
We are too late; I don’t think we can make it. 我們太遲了，我想我們難以準(zhǔn)時(shí)趕到了。
He says he’ll come on time, but he’ll never make it. 他說(shuō)他明天準(zhǔn)時(shí)來(lái)，但他絕對(duì)做不到。
(2) 成功，辦成。
如：He wants to make it as a writer. 他想作一名作家而一舉成名。
You needn’t worry; he will make it. 他不必?fù)?dān)心，他會(huì)辦成的。
4. make out
(1) 理解，明白。
如：Can you make him (it) out? 你能理解他(它)嗎?
I couldn’t make out what he meant. 我不懂他是什么意思。
(2) 看清，(勉強(qiáng))辨認(rèn)出。
如：I can’t make out his handwriting. 我辨認(rèn)不出他的筆跡。
We made out three figures moving in the distance. 我們看出遠(yuǎn)處有三個(gè)人影在移動(dòng)。
(3) 填寫(xiě)。
如：Make the check out to me. 支票上填寫(xiě)清楚給我。
I asked her to make out a receipt. 我叫她打了個(gè)收條。
(4) 假裝，裝成，聲稱(chēng)。
如 ：He made out to be ill. 他假裝生病了。
He makes out that he’s younger than me. 他聲稱(chēng)比我年輕。
5. make up
(1) 構(gòu)成，組成，占。
如：Farmers make up only 30% of the total population of the country. 這個(gè)國(guó)家的農(nóng)業(yè)人口僅占30%。
注：用于此義時(shí)，通常用 be made up of 這樣的形式。
如：The United States is made up of 50 states. 美國(guó)由五十個(gè)州組成。
A car is made up of many different parts. 汽車(chē)由許多不同部件組成。
(2) 編寫(xiě)，創(chuàng)作，編輯。
如：He asked us each to make up a dialogue. 他叫我們每人編一個(gè)對(duì)話。
He asked us each to make up a dialogue. One of our students made up the school song. 我們的一個(gè)學(xué)生創(chuàng)作了這首校歌。
(3) 編造，捏造。
如：It’s not true. He made it up. 那不是真的，是他捏造的。
The whole story is made up. 整個(gè)故事都是虛構(gòu)的。
(4) 和解，言歸于好。
如：Why don’t you make (it) up with her? 你為什么不與她和好呢?
(5) 彌補(bǔ)，補(bǔ)償，補(bǔ)上。
如：You must make up the work you missed. 你得補(bǔ)上你耽誤的工作。
We should let him make up for his mistakes. 我們應(yīng)該讓他將功補(bǔ)過(guò)。
(6) 化妝。
如：She makes herself up in the morning. 她早上化妝。
(7) 湊足。
如：We can’t make up the money. 我們湊不足錢(qián)。
(8) 準(zhǔn)備好，做好。
如 ：Bring the sheets and make up the bed. 拿床單來(lái)把床鋪好。
